Abbreviations and TermsAbbreviations SRLM - Security-Responsible Line Manager LASO - Los Alamos Site Office (DOE) Terms Control - A state in which restrictions, including physical proximity and visual or aural contact, are imposed by an escort to ensure that an escortee does not gain unauthorized access to classified material. DOE Standard Badge - A DOE-mandated badge for all DOE agencies and contractor-operated sites (with the exception of those sites permitted the DOE common badge, as designated in DOE Notice 473.4, Department of Energy Badge). Escort - An authorized individual assigned the responsibility to accompany an escortee within a Security Area to ensure adherence to security requirements. Escortee - A US citizen who lacks the required clearance level to access a Laboratory Security Area without an escort. Escorting - The process of physically accompanying an escortee continuously while entering, occupying, and leaving a Security Area to prevent unauthorized disclosure of classified matter. Protective Force - Security Officers and security police officers assigned to protective duties involving the safeguards and security interests of the Laboratory. Security Area - A physical space designed as an area containing Safeguards and Security interests (that is, classified matter and/or nuclear materials) that dictate the need for the imposition of physical protection measures, at a minimum entailing control of access to and from the designated area in order to protect Department of Energy interests. The types of Security Areas at the Laboratory include Limited Areas, Exclusion Areas, Protected Areas, Material Access Areas, and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities. This definition differs from the DOE definition, which includes property protection areas, where classified matter is not permitted. Security-Responsible Line Manager (SRLM) - First level of management in the line-management chain responsible for security in his or her organization (for example, division leader, group leader, program manager, or office leader). The SRLM establishes and manages security initiatives, determines and communicates the desired end-state, allocates resources, assesses performance, and provides methods of accountability. The SRLM also actively involves his or her workers in providing feedback and improving the security of their work and workplace. Worker - Any person who performs work at the Laboratory (whether on the Laboratory's DOE-owned, leased, or rental property). Workers include LANS employees, subcontractors, vendors, external organization employees, affiliates, and official visitors. Facility Operations Manager - The manager responsible for maintaining the safety and security envelope of a facility and/or area. This includes access controls into and out of all facilities or areas within his or her area of responsibility. The facility manager must coordinate with tenant organizations regarding access control. LANL Site-specific Badge - Any non-DOE Standard badge issued by the LANL Badge Office and valid for use only at LANL and DOE/LASO. |
