Personnel Security

As a safeguard, the Human Resources (HR) Division, in conjunction with Laboratory security personnel, conducts background screenings on prospective employees and contractors before they are allowed to access Laboratory information. The level of screening is determined by the protective measures (i.e., physical, technical, and administrative controls) that are already in place. This process is augmented by additional screening conducted by the prospective employee's supervisor if the worker is to be employed as a system or network administrator and/or will have special system privileges.

The Laboratory considers an individual who has been screened and deemed acceptable by HR and the prospective line manager as eligible to access the unclassified information required to accomplish assigned tasks.
