Identification of Protection Regimes

The Department of Energy gives the "data owner" the authority to determine their data type and the level of protection required. The data owner has traditionally been the one responsible for the data, its origination, protection levels, and required protections. At LANL, the data owner could be the system user, a line manager, or a manager responsible for a particular application.

Your line manager is responsible for helping you determine the protection regime for the data you will be accessing and/or creating. If you access the Enterprise Information Applications (EIA), the particular application itself will identify the sensitivity level of the data it will display so that you can ensure that the proper protections are in place.
