Summary

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE: The Theoretical Biology & Biophysics Group in the Theoretical Division (http://www.t6.lanl.gov) is seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral research opportunity in computational systems biology. The successful candidate will develop predictive models for signal-transduction systems that play a role in immunity together with Drs. Byron Goldstein and William S. Hlavacek and will interact with experimental laboratories within the Center for Spatiotemporal Modeling of Cell Signaling Networks, which is comprised of research groups at Los Alamos National Laboratory, the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and Cancer Center, and other institutions.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to publish in the scientific literature
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively on a team
  • Experience in scientific and other types of programming
  • Ability to develop and analyze mathematical models for signal-transduction systems

Desired Skills

  • Experience with rule-based modeling (Sci. STKE 2006:re6)
  • Knowledge of antigen recognition receptor signaling processes
  • Knowledge of biochemistry and molecular and cellular biology
  • Knowledge of numerical algorithms
  • Knowledge of physical chemistry, in particular diffusion, chemical reaction kinetics and thermodynamics

Education

A Ph.D. in applied mathematics, chemical, physical or biological science, computer science, engineering, or related field completed within the last five years or soon to be completed is required.
